When physicists Claudia Felser and Stuart Parkin were introduced at a conference on applied magnetics, they felt an immediate attraction. But then, standing outside the Amsterdam conference centre, they started talking shop. Parkin was interested in finding materials he could use to make miniature data-storage devices. Parkin thought that the compounds sounded as though they would be too difficult to interface with other materials.A farm-to-fork restaurant includes a nanny-staffed room for children so you can enjoy your meal in peace, and a 5,000-square-foot kids’ science center with an electromagnetic ring toss and an exhibition about the way the wind moves on the ocean opened its doors in December. This childhood fantasia didn’t happen by accident: some of it is the result of urban-design investments made by Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, and his wife, Anne Wojcicki (pronounced Wo--skee), the most important couple in town—and perhaps the most prominent young couple in Silicon Valley.NEW LOOK Sergey Brin at the Diane von Furstenberg spring 2013 show.Opposite Amanda Rosenberg at the after-party., Photographs: left, by Gregory Pace/BEImages; right, by Joe Schildhorn/bfanyc.com, digital retouching by lorna clark. The debate over an exact definition of romantic love may be found in literature as well as in the works of psychologists, philosophers, biochemists and other professionals and specialists.Romantic love is a relative term, but generally accepted as a definition that distinguishes moments and situations within intimate relationships to an individual as contributing to a significant relationship connection.

And as Felser shared her growing knowledge about the semiconductor and quantum properties of Heusler compounds, Parkin grew more curious about the molecules — and about Felser. “So this was more or less how it started and we're still working together,” he says.
